In my IB training, I learned that authentic student led inquiry means the student has ownership and is more likely to have an enduring understanding. This can open doors to infinite possibilities and a huge sense of responsibility.
Toni, Not only can it lead to a student's huge sense of responsibility but also it can lead to a huge sense of accomplishment in learning a new skill, that of authentic and genuine inquiry. They learn that this skill can be repeated whenever needed.
